Neal Boortz is a true patriot, a 35 year veteran of talk radio and a 50 year veteran of life. To him, freedom is everything. Always has been—even when this country wasn’t listening. There is no greater point of view or more relevant show on the radio today. Neal drives home important and oft-forgotten points on the day’s most important issues with a unique blend of insight and humor.
Neal was born on April 6, 1945 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; however, he left for Texas about 30 days later when his father returned to the Pacific to continue his participation in World War II as a Marine pilot. According to Neal, Texas was always his “official” residence, but he lived all over the place since his father was in the Marine Corps.
After attending Texas A&M University from 1963 to 1967, Neal went to Atlanta to visit his parents. According to Neal, his father was working at Lockheed at the time and liked the place, so he stayed and has been there ever since.
Neal graduated from an Atlanta law school in 1977. “Law school finally presented a challenge worthy of my attention, so I worked at it and graduated near the top of my class. I passed the bar before graduation so I went into practice immediately. I continued practicing law until I signed a contract with WSB in 1992,” said Neal.
During his years in talk radio, Neal Boortz also practiced law from 1977 to 1992. Prior to 1977, Neal also worked as a jewelry or carpet buyer, an insurance salesman, selling life and casualty insurance, loading trucks, slinging mail at the post office, working in an employment office, writing speeches for the Governor of Georgia and auditing the books overnight at a “sleazy” motel. Neal added, “Since I didn’t retire from my law practice until I signed with WSB in 1992 this would mean that I was 47 years old before I ever had less than two jobs.”
Neal has also explored his talent for writing. His books include: The Terrible Truth About Liberals; The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear; The FairTax Book—Saying Goodbye to the Income Tax and the IRS (co-authored with Congressman John Linder) and his most recent: Somebody’s Gotta Say It.
As for politics, Neal is a confirmed Libertarian. “I believe that the principal difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Democrats just want to grow our Imperial Federal Government a bit faster than the Republicans do,” he said.
Neal has twice been nominated for the National Association of Broadcaster’s Marconi Award as the nation’s number one radio talk-show host. He divides his time between Atlanta, Georgia, and Naples, Florida.
