Marlin Fitzwater

Few are better qualified to comment on the Presidency than the legendary Marlin Fitzwater.  The only Press Secretary in U.S. history to be appointed by two Presidents, Marlin Fitzwater served for almost a decade as the public relations strategist to Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush.  Daily, he faced the voracious press and eventually won them over through his celebrated wit, intelligence, and ability to clarify the issues.

Personable, funny and down-to-earth, Mr. Fitzwater provides a unique insight into the White House and Washington with wit and humor.  The New York Times said of Mr. Fitzwater, “He may look like a tweedy, out-of-shape bureaucrat on the podium, but his persona is a blend of W.C. Fields, Huckleberry Finn and the comedian Gary Shandling.”

His book, Call The Briefing, is a best-selling memoir of ten years in the White House.  His second book, Esther’s Pillow, is a novel based on the true story of a small town in Kansas.  Mr. Fitzwater is currently working on another book of fiction about a waterman on the Chesapeake Bay.

Mr. Fitzwater spent two seasons as a consultant to the NBC television drama, “The West Wing”.   He frequently lectures at the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication at Franklin Pierce College.

In his speeches, Mr. Fitzwater uses his experiences within the White House fishbowl to put today’s media events into perspective.  After working for or against all of Washington’s players, and a decade defending and explaining the miniscule movements and the grandiose initiatives of the White House—including Operation Desert Storm and the end of the Cold War—Marlin Fitzwater is an expert commentator on the World of Washington.

Mr. Fitzwater resides in Maryland.
